Synopsis
St Mariah's Hospital for the criminally insane possesses secrets. Reporter, Ellen Cole is determined to uncover one of these secrets. Posing as an agency nurse, she manages to get herself into the sterile, white corridors of the hospital, where she has all but hard proof of the abuse and miss-care of the patients under its protection. Ellen's nose for uncovering injustices is further motivated by the fact that her brother, Peter, is one of these patients, locked away for a crime that Ellen knows he didn't commit.

Dr Charles Leonard controls the asylum with an iron rule of fear and loathing. He is unaware of the outside presence that has infiltrated his castle. He has more pressing matters to deal with. He is hosting a Christmas party in the main hall of the Asylum, a party at which he intends to make an important announcement.

Meanwhile, Ellen has located her brother who seems to be very agitated and spouts off some incomprehensible ramblings about 'Cell number 8'. Having gathered some proof of the abuse she had suspected by way of a particular patient named Stiles (a multiple murderer who can't remember any of the killings due to his blackouts) being beaten, Ellen decides to investigate Cell number 8. What she finds there, changes her entire outlook on, not only the Asylum, but the realities of life itself.

Cell Number 8 isn't a cell at all, but a secret passageway to another level of the Asylum. A level only lit by candle light, where strange, dark figures lurk in the cells. Ellen has to hide as Dr Leonard and his head orderly, Sturges, lead one of the insane inmates to one of these cells and pushes him in. Ellen cannot believe her eyes as the patient is ravaged by the occupant of the cell. A Vampire!

Ellen witnesses the macabre sight of Dr Leonard ripping out the heart of the vampire and sending it away for tests. He is trying to find something that is present in the highly charged blood of a vampire that has just made a fresh kill. Could it be anything to do with the supposed immortality of these beasts?

Ellen is captured and Dr Leonard interrogates her and calls the police. Knowing now what the true fate of the patients in this 'Hospital is, Ellen learns that Peter is to be next and with no other option, she causes a distraction by letting out the insane inmates, to buy her time to get Peter out of there.

However, the Vampires in their creepy area of the Asylum, have not been idle. Their leader, Stelinger, has already initiated his plan for their escape. He has bitten one of the staff nurses, Nurse Caldwell, and she now stalks the corridors possessing his power as a true immortal. She becomes the most vicious and terrifying creature of the night, and lets her brothers and sisters out.

Now both Vampires and criminally insane patients are loose and the only result can be a blood bath! Ellen teams up with Stiles, the patient with the murderous blackouts, and PC Williams, a rookie Bobby who was called to the Asylum, along with his now dead Sergeant, to take Ellen away.

Can this unlikely Trio find their way out of the blood soaked corridors? Can Ellen save Peter? Will Nurse Caldwell lead the Vampires to victory and break out into the outside world. Will the inmates for that matter?

And let's not forget Dr Leonard's little gathering. Could this turn out to be the Christmas Bash to end them all?
